I’m Kyle and I own and operate Ladybird Farm. After graduating from the University of Maryland with a degree in Horticulture and Crop Production in 2010, I dove into the organic farming industry and haven’t looked back. I have experience managing small-scale organic vegetable farms in both Maryland and Virginia. During this time, I farmed about 3 acres of veggies and gained experience managing chickens, pigs, sheep and goats. I also spent time in Asheville, North Carolina learning how to install extensive, automated irrigation systems. This skill set has been immensely beneficial in my farming ventures since.
I’m passionate about utilizing natural farming practices and dedicated to providing my community with environmentally-responsible food. I’m also passionate about my insect populations in the field and will readily discuss how I utilize insects to control pests in the garden, i.e. biological control. My vision for the farming practices used at Ladybird centers around doing what I think is right rather than what is easy which often times equates to working the hard way. Over time I hope to develop a strong farming system that works to support itself through fertility and pest and disease control, allowing the early investment of hard work to pay off.
